Cheng Sheng

Cheng Sheng is an Assistant Professor of Physics at UT Arlington specializing in space physics and atmospheric dynamics. His NASA/NSF-funded research examines how solar and magnetospheric energy inputs affect Earth's upper atmosphere during geomagnetic disturbances.

Research focuses on:

• Ionosphere-thermosphere coupling mechanisms
• Multi-scale modeling of space weather impacts
• Geomagnetic storm effects on atmospheric dynamics
• Interhemispheric asymmetry in atmospheric responses

Recent publications analyze high-resolution observational data using global circulation models (TIEGCM, GITM) to quantify energy transfer processes. Work demonstrates particular expertise in thermospheric wind patterns and Joule heating phenomena.

Dr. Sheng teaches electricity/magnetism courses and mentors students in space physics research. He serves as AGU session convener and journal reviewer for space physics publications.
