Chen Gui-Qiang George

Gui-Qiang George Chen is a Statutory Professor in the Analysis of Partial Differential Equations (PDE Chair) and Professorial Fellow at Keble College, University of Oxford, UK. He has served as Director of the Oxford Centre for Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations (OxPDE) since 2018 and leads the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Partial Differential Equations: Analysis and Applications (established 2014). His roles include Adjunct Professorships at Northwestern University (USA) since 2010 and prior academic positions at institutions such as the University of Chicago (1989–1999), the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton, 1994), and the Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (Cambridge, 1991–1997).

Chen's academic journey includes postdoctoral research at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (1987–1989) and a Senior Fellowship at Norway's Academy of Science and Letters (2008). He was elected to the Academy of Europe in 2022 and holds membership in prominent mathematical societies including SIAM (2012), AMS (2017), and IMA (2014).

His research interests center on advanced mathematical analysis of nonlinear PDEs, particularly in fluid dynamics and gas dynamics. Key areas include entropy analysis, weak convergence methods, mixed-type PDEs, measure-theoretical analysis, free boundary problems, hyperbolic conservation laws, and shock wave theory. His work bridges theoretical rigor with applications in mathematical physics and industrial problems.
