Prof. Chen De is a Professor of Catalysis at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), since 2001, having previously served as an Associate Professor (1998–2001). He leads the Innovation Hub for Chemical Upcycling of Wastes and holds key roles in the National Innovation Center for Industrial Catalysis Science and Innovation (iCSI) and the National Environmental Energy Center (FME) of Biomass for Fuels (Bio4Fuels). His research focuses on multiscale catalysis, heterogeneous catalysis mechanisms, biomass conversion, and CO₂ capture, with applications in plastic recycling and energy storage. He has published over 450 peer-reviewed papers (H-index 84) and holds over 10 patents licensed to industries.
Education: PhD in Industrial Catalysis from NTNU (1998). Visiting Professorships include the University of California, Berkeley (2009–2010) and East China University of Science and Technology (2017–2018). Awards include membership in the Royal Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Letters and the Global Academic Chinese Chemical Engineering Society Fellowship.
