Hilde Johnsen Venvik

Professor Hilde Johnsen Venvik holds a dual affiliation as a Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and serves as Director of the iCSI Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI) since 2015. Her work focuses on industrial and environmental catalysis, with emphasis on catalyst development for natural gas and biomass conversion, reactor engineering, and surface science. She leads a multidisciplinary team within the KINCAT Gemini Centre, collaborating with SINTEF and the University of Oslo.

Her research portfolio includes over 80 scientific publications and an h-index of 27. She has supervised 8 PhD candidates as primary advisor, 7 as secondary advisor, and 38 master’s students. Key projects include the iCSI initiative (€20M budget, 2015–2023) and prior leadership of NTNU’s Gas Technology Centre (2010–2015). Her competencies span heterogeneous catalysis, functional materials, and sustainable process design.

Collaborations involve industrial partners like Yara, KA Rasmussen, and Haldor Topsøe, alongside academic institutions. Her work integrates experimental techniques (e.g., scanning probe microscopy, DFT modeling) with industrial applications, addressing challenges in carbon formation, catalytic oxidation, and process intensification.
