Dr. Chelsia Harris is a tenured Professor and Executive Director of Nursing at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, bringing over 20 years of nursing experience and 16 years in nursing education and leadership to her role.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Arkansas Tech University (2004), a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Vanderbilt University (2008), and a Doctor of Nursing Practice with an emphasis in Educational Leadership from Case Western Reserve University (2015). She was valedictorian of Atkins High School (Class of 2000).
Dr. Harris's research focuses on compassion fatigue, burnout prevention, rural healthcare access, health equity, advanced practice nursing, and spiritual care integration in nursing practice. Her work explores the connections between burnout, compassion fatigue, and daily spiritual experience among healthcare professionals, with particular attention to maintaining resilience in challenging environments.
Her scholarship includes numerous peer-reviewed publications and two books: Created & Called: A Journey to and through Nursing and the children's book Hannah Visits Nana in the Nursing Home. Her article Nursing on Empty: Compassion Fatigue Signs, Symptoms, and System Interventions ranked in the top 25% of all research outputs scored by Altmetric.
Dr. Harris has secured grants supporting innovative academic-clinical partnerships and rural nursing workforce development initiatives. She has presented at conferences at all levels and served as a peer reviewer for professional nursing journals.
She has held elected executive officer roles in nursing organizations in Missouri and Tennessee, demonstrating her commitment to professional leadership. Known for her joyful, passionate, and inspiring presence, she believes nursing is not just a career but a calling from God.
