Chelsea Spencer

Chelsea Spencer is a Research Assistant Professor in the Couple and Family Therapy program within the Department of Applied Human Sciences at Kansas State University’s School of Human Sciences. Her work bridges research, clinical practice, and policy, with a focus on intimate partner violence, homicide, and sexual violence. She specializes in meta-analyses and quantitative methods, contributing to prevention strategies for the Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force. Clinically, she employs EMDR to support trauma survivors.

Research & Clinical Focus: Dr. Spencer’s research identifies risk factors for violence perpetration/victimization and evaluates domestic violence interventions. She collaborates with military and civilian institutions to advance trauma-informed care. Her clinical expertise includes trauma therapy using EMDR.

Certifications: AAMFT Approved Supervisor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Kansas).

Her work is affiliated with the School of Human Sciences’ initiatives, including the Divorce Education Assessment Collaborative and Family Center.
