Dr. Chelsea Ekstrand is an Associate Professor at the University of Lethbridge's Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN), where she established the Ekstrand Neuroimaging Lab in July 2020. Her research investigates how the human brain processes real-world multisensory environments using neuroimaging (fMRI, DTI, spectroscopy), behavioral analysis, and computational methods.
Research Focus: Her lab employs naturalistic stimuli—including audiovisual movies, video games, and immersive virtual reality—to study brain activity in contexts mirroring real-life experiences. Key interests include:
- Neural mechanisms of complex sensory integration
- Predictive modeling of cognitive processes
- Impact of behavioral/pathological traits on brain activity
- Structure-function relationships in the brain
The lab operates at the intersection of neuroscience, technology, and experimental psychology, leveraging the CCBN's facilities at the University of Lethbridge, located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory.
