Aglaia Chatjouli is an Assistant Professor (tenured) at the Department of Social Anthropology and History, University of the Aegean. Her work focuses on the anthropology of health, body studies, and biosociality. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of the Aegean (2009) and prior degrees in Molecular Cell Biology (King’s College London) and Human Biology (University of Oxford). She has extensive experience in research projects addressing topics like thalassaemia, infertility, and medically assisted reproduction. Her teaching includes courses on the anthropology of health, global health, and climate change impacts on health.

Her research explores intersections between biology, culture, and health, with a focus on reproductive technologies, genetic disorders (e.g., thalassaemia), and the politics of health equity. She has contributed to projects such as (In)FERCIT on assisted reproduction and the Hellenic Open University’s mental health guide for refugees. She has lectured internationally, including at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens’ international health program.
Grants and collaborations include the EU-funded (In)FERCIT project (2013–2015) and work on cross-cultural healthcare mediation funded by the European Fund for Third-Country Nationals (2011–2012). She is affiliated with research labs at the University of the Aegean, including the Ethnography Lab and the Language History Lab.
