Dr. Charmaine Lloyd is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology at RMIT University's School of Science (STEM College), joining in July 2023. With 16 years of teaching experience across India, Singapore, and Australia, she specializes in Microbiology, Immunology, and STEM education. She has received multiple teaching accolades, including the ASM Early Career Excellence in Teaching Award and Singapore's EXSA Gold. Her research focuses on antimicrobial resistance, microalgae applications, and microbiome studies, complemented by a strong commitment to innovative pedagogy. She currently leads the ASM Education Special Interest Group (EdSIG) and organizes the ASM EduCon conference. Her industry experience spans roles at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Swinburne University, and Monash University, emphasizing work-integrated learning (WIL). Key research projects include isolating bioactive compounds from mangroves and studying Campylobacter pathogenicity mechanisms.
Dr. Lloyd's teaching portfolio includes courses like BIOL2531/2532 (Microbiology & Immunology) and supervises final-year and master's research projects. She has pioneered podcast-based learning and blogging initiatives to enhance student engagement and public health communication. Her scientific awards reflect her dual excellence in research and education. Current projects address antimicrobial resistance in food animals and microbial diversity in urban environments.
