Charlotte Overgaard

Charlotte Overgaard is a Professor of Health Promotion at the Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark, and holds a concurrent Professorship at Sydvestjysk Sygehus Esbjerg since December 2022. She leads the Unit of Health Promotion and the Research Team for Women’s, Child, Adolescent, and Family Health and Intervention Research. Her academic qualifications include a PhD in Sociology of Health (Aalborg University Hospital, 2012), MSc in Health (University of Southern Denmark, 2003), and a Midwifery degree (Danmarks Jordemoderskole, 1990).

Her research focuses on maternal and child health, gestational diabetes interventions, healthcare equity, and social determinants of mental health. Notable projects include developing interventions for vulnerable pregnant women and parents, and improving follow-up care for women with gestational diabetes. She has authored over 176 publications and secured significant grants, including funding for the Excellence Center HELIOS targeting obesity research.

Dr. Overgaard teaches courses in public health implementation and introductory health sciences, and actively participates in conferences, peer reviews, and research collaborations. Her work has societal impact through policy contributions and community health initiatives targeting low-income populations and public housing areas.
