Dr. Charlotte Henze is a Researcher at the University of Basel's Department of History, specializing in Imperial Russian history between the 18th and early 20th centuries. Her work focuses on political, social, and cultural history, particularly examining the Russo-Swedish borderland in Finland (1703-1815) to analyze imperial expansion, national identity formation, and Baltic Sea geopolitics.

Her research connects micro-histories of border regions with macro-narratives of empire-building and state formation. Publications include studies on cholera epidemics, healthcare systems in the Volga region, and critical analyses of infrastructure development and medical governance under Tsarist rule.
