Charlotte Fowler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, with an affiliation in Data Science. She completed her Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in 2024, with an MPhil in Biostatistics from Columbia University in 2022, and a B.A. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Macalester College in 2019.
Her research focuses on causal inference methods for complex health data, particularly addressing issues of missingness, non-stationarity, and latent variables in mobile health studies. Dr. Fowler's work is motivated by applications to improve understanding of mental health and health disparities among individuals with severe mental illness, including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
- Biostatistics and causal inference methodology development
- Mobile health (mHealth) data analysis using wearable devices and smartphones
- Missing data techniques for longitudinal studies
- Time series analysis for N-of-1 studies
- Health disparities research
Dr. Fowler has presented her research at numerous conferences including the New England Statistical Society, Eastern North American Region (ENAR), and Joint Statistical Meetings. Her publications span biostatistics, causal inference, psychiatry, and public health journals. She is passionate about increasing accessibility and diversity in the field of statistics.
Her recent work includes methodological developments for causal inference with mobile health data, comparative analyses of software for causal diagrams, and applications to heart failure and mental health research.
