معرفی
Charlie Bond is a Professor at the School of Molecular Sciences, The University of Western Australia, and an affiliate of the Australian Centre for RNA Therapeutics in Cancer. He specializes in structural biology, focusing on the three-dimensional structure of biomolecules like proteins and nucleic acids to understand their roles in disease mechanisms and drug design.
Education: PhD in Protein Crystallography from the University of Manchester (1996), BSc (Hons) in Chemistry with Industrial Experience (1992). His postdoctoral work spanned Sydney and Dundee, UK.
Research Interests: Structural biology of enzyme function, protein-RNA interactions, DNA repair mechanisms, and drug discovery. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals in health and biotechnology.
Awards & Funding: Recipient of the School of Molecular Sciences Award for Research Mentorship (2023). Active grants include NHMRC Project Grants, ARC Discovery Projects, and Cancer Council WA funding. He leads projects on molecular 'safety catches' for RNA modification and intraoperative immunotherapy.
Teaching & Supervision: Teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Supervises PhD students in structural biology and drug design. His lab (bondxray.org) recruits students focused on RNA recognition and gene regulation.
Labs & Collaborations: Collaborates globally in structural biology and biophysics. Co-leads the ARC Training Centre for Next-Gen Technologies in Biomedical Analysis and uses synchrotron science for structural studies.
