His academic roles include advising the St. Norbert mock trial team and acting as the campus pre-law advisor.
His research focuses on the influence of judicial roles within the U.S. Supreme Court, particularly the impact of Senior Associate Justices on legal direction, and public perceptions of judicial selection processes. Additionally, Jacobs is working on a book exploring the role of retired Supreme Court justices in shaping current court decisions.
Jacobs' scholarly work primarily addresses judicial dynamics, Supreme Court history, and the intersection of law and public perception. His articles analyze key figures like Justice Scalia, Kennedy, and Stevens, examining their influence on criminal justice, judicial philosophy, and court operations. Recent studies also delve into state-level judicial accountability and desegregation litigation.
In addition to his research and teaching, Jacobs mentors students through the mock trial team and pre-law advising. While specific grants are not detailed, his collaborative research with the SRI highlights institutional support for his work.
Jacobs collaborates with the SRI and colleagues on Wisconsin judicial surveys and is actively involved with the mock trial team, fostering student engagement in legal studies.
