Charles Young is a Professor of Psychology and Academic Chair of Postgraduate Courses in Professional and Clinical Psychology at Murdoch University's College of Health and Education. As a Clinical and Counselling Psychologist, his research focuses on forensic PTSD and student mental health. Previously, he served as Head of Psychology at Rhodes University (South Africa) and worked with the UK's NHS developing cognitive therapy interventions.
His research examines clinical psychology practice patterns, workforce challenges in counselling psychology, forensic mental health contexts, and substance abuse in vulnerable populations. Methodologically, his work utilizes both quantitative assessments and qualitative explorations of professional experiences.
Recent publications analyze gender dynamics in forensic psychiatry (2024), counselling psychology workforce trends (2025), and alcohol use during pregnancy (2021). His scholarship consistently addresses psychological service delivery challenges within South Africa's unique sociocultural context.
