Dr. Charles Wira is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, affiliated with both the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Division of Vascular Neurology in Neurology. His research focuses on stroke, sepsis, and cardiac arrest, with major contributions to the 2010 AHA cardiac arrest guidelines and leadership in clinical trials like NETT and SIREN. Clinically, he co-led Yale's certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and pioneered hypothermia therapy for cardiac arrest survivors. Regionally, he chairs the NorthEast Cerebrovascular Consortium and the Connecticut Stroke Task Force, influencing state-level stroke policy. Nationally, he serves on the AHA/ASA Emergency Neurovascular Care Committee and contributed to SAEM policy statements on thrombolytic therapy. Dr. Wira completed residency at Henry Ford Hospital (2005) and earned his MD from Dartmouth (2000) and BS from University of New Hampshire (1993).
