Charles Wilkins is an Associate Professor of Middle Eastern history at Wake Forest University. His research focuses on the social and cultural history of the Ottoman Empire during the Early Modern Period (1500–1800), particularly the integration of Arab lands into the empire. He authored Forging Urban Solidarities: Ottoman Aleppo, 1640–1700 and is currently working on a book project titled 'Lives Astride: A Social and Cultural History of Ottoman Aleppo, 1516–1918.'
