Charles Vannette is an Associate Professor of German in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), where he has taught since 2015. Previously, he held a position at Ferris State University (2011-2015). His research focuses on cognitive approaches to literature, intersections of literature and mental health (particularly schizophrenia), disability studies, and 20th-century German culture, with a specialization in Robert Walser’s works.
His recent publications explore Walser’s narrative techniques, professional communication in German cultural education, and historical-literary parallels such as Heinrich von Kleist’s relevance to modern conflicts. His teaching portfolio includes advanced communication skills, modern German literature, and courses on German professional culture in Europe. He earned his Ph.D. in Germanic Languages from Ohio State University (2011), preceded by an M.A. and B.A. from the same institution and the University of Arizona, respectively.
