Charles Upchurch is Professor of History at Florida State University, specializing in nineteenth-century British gender, social, and cultural history. His award-winning books include Beyond the Law (2021), which analyzes parliamentary debates on sodomy laws, and Before Wilde (2009), exploring class and same-sex desire in Victorian Britain.
A past President of the Southern Conference on British Studies, he has served as Distinguished Academic Patron for UK LGBT History Month. His research combines digital methodologies with analyses of sexuality, privacy, and social reform.
