Charles Umbanhowar Jr. is a Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies at St. Olaf College, where he also serves as Director of Natural Lands. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in botany with a minor in entomology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
- Research Interests: Paleoecology, prairie community ecology, fire history of the Big Woods and Great Plains, insect herbivory, multivariate statistical methods, and prairie/oak savanna restoration.
- Teaching: Courses in Plant Morphology and Systematics, Ecological Principles, Remote Sensing and GIS, Winter Ecology, and Environmental Studies Capstone Seminar, among others.
