معرفی
Charles Redwood is an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Biochemistry at the University of Oxford, leading the Redwood Group focused on cardiac contractility. His work intersects with the Watkins Group, which investigates inherited heart muscle diseases.
His research explores the molecular mechanisms of cardiac and skeletal muscle contractility regulation, with a focus on inherited cardiomyopathies (hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathy) and skeletal muscle myopathies. He employs biochemical, biophysical, and cellular approaches to study how mutations in sarcomere proteins alter calcium sensitivity and myocyte function, contributing to disease pathogenesis.
Recent publications highlight his work on calcium dynamics in cardiomyocytes, post-translational modifications of myofilament proteins (e.g., AMPK phosphorylation), and therapeutic interventions like Mavacamten. His studies bridge structural biology, functional assays, and disease modeling to uncover links between protein dysfunction and clinical outcomes.
