Charles R. Shipan is the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Professor of Social Science at the University of Michigan, holding a joint appointment in the Department of Political Science and a courtesy appointment at the Ford School of Public Policy. He previously taught at the University of Iowa and held research roles at institutions like the Brookings Institution and Trinity College Dublin. Currently, he is a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Copenhagen.
Education: Stanford University (Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science), Carleton College (B.A. in Chemistry with honors).
Research focuses on American Government, Public Policy, Law, Courts, and Comparative Government. His work explores policy diffusion, legislative influence on agencies, judicial review, and executive discretion.
