Charles Gottlieb is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Geneva and Aix-Marseille School of Economics (currently on leave), and concurrently serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of St. Gallen. He maintains an associate researcher affiliation with the Economic Growth Centre at Yale University.
His research focuses on:

- Gender economics and labor allocation patterns
- Household financial behavior and policy impacts
- Human capital development in economic systems
Dr. Gottlieb pioneered two major international datasets: the Harmonized World Labor Force Survey (HWLFS) and Harmonized World Time Use Survey (HWTUS), enabling novel macroeconomic modeling of global inequality. His recent publications consistently explore gender disparities, labor patterns, and human capital's role in development, with frequent cross-country comparative frameworks.
In July 2025, he secured a Large Research Grant from STEG-CEPR to support his investigations into structural economic transformation. He leads research initiatives including the Global Gender Distortions Index project and maintains collaborative relationships with the World Bank, evidenced by his contribution to the 2024 World Development Report.
