Charles Edwards

Charles Edwards is a Professor of the Practice in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina. He concurrently serves as Director of the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Logistics and Freight Division. His career spans senior leadership roles in aviation, logistics, and transportation infrastructure, including contributions to United Parcel Service Airlines, management of a commercial airport, and development of the world’s largest air vehicle. Edwards holds degrees from universities in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

His expertise focuses on transportation planning with emphasis on logistics, aviation systems, and international freight networks. Edwards co-leads an international air cargo education program and actively participates on U.S. and global logistics industry boards. His professional experience spans projects across Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the United Arab Emirates.
