Charles D.T. Macaulay

Charles D.T. Macaulay is an Assistant Professor in the Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research focuses on critical management studies, activism in sport, and organizational behavior in sport, examining how normative structures influence decision-making and stakeholder activism. He holds a Ph.D. in Learning, Leadership, and Educational Policy from the University of Connecticut (2021), an MS in Sport Management (2017), a BA in Sociology (2014), and an AA in Culture and Technology (2012).

His research explores organizational sensemaking, governance of college athletics, and racial inequities in sport. Recent work includes analyses of racialized labor markets in college football and gender representation in sport merchandise. He has been nominated for the UMass Amherst Distinguished Teaching Award (2023–24) and actively manages 10 research projects.

Teaching interests include the sociology of sport, organizational behavior, and leadership. He emphasizes inclusive pedagogy, leveraging research to create impactful learning environments.
