Charles Burdett

Charles Burdett is Professor of Italian Studies and Director of the Institute of Languages Cultures and Societies at the University of London's School of Advanced Study. His research examines cultural representations of Italian colonialism, transnational Italian identities, and Italy's relationship with the Islamic world.

Research explores colonial legacies in contemporary culture through literary analysis, memory studies, and transnational theory. Recent work investigates architectural remnants of empire, museological practices, and educational approaches to colonial history.

Burdett leads major research initiatives including the AHRC-funded 'Transnationalizing Modern Languages' project. As co-editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association, he promotes interdisciplinary dialogues in cultural studies.
