Charlene Senn is a Professor in the Department of Psychology and Women’s Studies at the University of Windsor, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Her primary research focuses on developing and testing interventions to prevent sexual violence, most notably the Enhanced Assess, Acknowledge, and Act (EAAA) program, which has been validated through large-scale studies including publications in the New England Journal of Medicine. Her work addresses gender-based violence, rape myth acceptance, and the intersection of substance use with sexual aggression.
Her research spans multiple areas including sexual violence prevention strategies, LGBTQ+ inclusive methodologies, and attitudes toward marginalized groups such as transgender survivors and sex workers. Senn’s contributions include pioneering mixed-methods approaches to validate self-report measures of violence perpetration and victimization, as well as adapting interventions for international contexts like Australia.
Key themes in her work emphasize empowerment-based solutions, critical evaluation of program implementation in real-world settings, and addressing gaps in traditional research methodologies. She has contributed to policy discussions around effective prevention strategies in educational institutions and community programs.
