Chao Guo is a Professor of Nonprofit Management in the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania, serving as Faculty Director of the Master’s in Nonprofit Leadership (NPL) Program and Associate Faculty Director of the Fox Leadership International. He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (2016-2022) and founded the Institute for Philanthropy & Social Innovation at Renmin University of China. His research focuses on nonprofit-government dynamics, social entrepreneurship, and digital advocacy strategies in the social sector.

His work has earned prestigious awards including the 2021 Academy of Management Best Book Award and 2022 ARNOVA Outstanding Book Prize.
