Chantal Gibson is Lecturer and Faculty Advisor for Equity, Community, and Care at Simon Fraser University's School of Interactive Arts & Technology. A 2021 3M National Teaching Fellow and 2016 SFU Excellence in Teaching Award recipient, she integrates decolonial methodologies across writing and visual communication pedagogy.
Her interdisciplinary practice confronts colonial narratives through altered texts, installations, and poetry collections. Exhibitions at ROM, Vancouver Art Gallery, and Senate of Canada deconstruct historical erasure while publications like 'How She Read' examine Black representation in Canadian cultural institutions.
Major honors include the Pat Lowther and Dorothy Livesay poetry prizes, plus Griffin Poetry Prize shortlisting. She leads workshops nationally on art-based decolonization and presents at institutions including Dalhousie Art Gallery and Open Space Victoria.
