Channon Visscher

Channon Visscher is Professor of Chemistry & Planetary Sciences at Dordt University and Research Scientist at Space Science Institute. His research models chemical processes in planetary atmospheres to understand formation and evolution of planetary systems.

Key research areas:

• Atmospheric chemistry of brown dwarfs and exoplanets
• Vertical mixing and disequilibrium chemistry in substellar atmospheres
• Interdisciplinary connections between science and religion

He leads development of the Sonora Substellar Atmosphere Models used for JWST data interpretation. Recent work includes detecting phosphine in brown dwarfs and modeling sulfur photochemistry on exoplanets.

Funded research includes NASA grants for exoplanet atmosphere studies and NSF infrastructure development. He mentors undergraduate researchers through Dordt's summer program and directs graduate-level collaborations.
