Chanjuan Chen

Chanjuan Chen is an Associate Professor and Fashion Design Coordinator in the Michael W. Faircloth Fashion Design M.F.A. Program at the College of Visual Arts and Design, University of North Texas. She holds a B.Eng. in Fashion Design from Xiamen University of Technology (China) and an M.F.A. in Design with a Fashion Design concentration from the University of North Texas. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Art Education, expected in 2025.

Chen’s research focuses on sustainable apparel design through participatory engagement, transformable/upcycled garments, and strategies to reduce production waste while enhancing product longevity. Her work emphasizes functional, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing clothing to improve the human condition.

Her scholarly contributions include the 2023 work Environmentally Fashion-Friendly video, which aligns with her expertise in eco-conscious fashion practices.

With prior industry experience as a fashion designer, technical designer, and graphic designer in both China and the United States, Chen bridges academic and professional domains. She previously served as an assistant professor at Kent State University’s School of Fashion Design and Merchandising.
