Changjian Feng is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of New Mexico, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research focuses on the biochemistry and biophysics of metalloproteins, particularly nitric oxide synthase (NOS), exploring its structural-dynamics-functional relationships. He has authored over 90 publications and is an active NIH and NSF reviewer. Dr. Feng earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Central China Normal University (1992), M.S. in Inorganic Chemistry from the same institution (1995), and Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Nanjing University (1998).
His research investigates electron transfer mechanisms in NOS isoforms, emphasizing domain motions and interdomain docking effects. Techniques include biochemical kinetics, biophysical spectroscopy, and molecular dynamics simulations. Key findings highlight the role of protein dynamics in modulating electron transfer, with implications for developing targeted therapies for diseases involving NOS dysfunction.
Honors include the 2007 Gordon Research Conference Young Investigator Award and the 1999 Asia-Pacific EPR Society Distinguished Service Award. His lab is part of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UNM’s Health Sciences Center, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches to oxidoreductase enzyme mechanisms.
