Chambi Chachage is an Assistant Professor in the Department of African Studies at Howard University, where he teaches courses such as 'African Systems of Thought' and 'Introduction to Contemporary Africa'. He previously held academic positions at Carleton University and Princeton University. Chachage holds a PhD and AM in African Studies and History from Harvard University, an MSc in African Studies from the University of Edinburgh, and undergraduate degrees from the University of Cape Town. His research focuses on Pan-Africanism, African Political Economy, and the intersections of race, capitalism, and social movements. He is the founder of Udadisi, a digital platform for critical discourse on African issues.
Chachage's work explores themes such as African digital humanities, land rights, and the legacy of leaders like Julius Nyerere. His publications include articles in Development, African Sociological Review, and edited volumes. He is also the co-editor of Africa’s Liberation: The Legacy of Nyerere and is completing a book on African entrepreneurship in Eastern Africa. His writing engages with contemporary African politics, globalization, and historical struggles for liberation.
Chachage has been recognized for his interdisciplinary approach to African Studies, blending academic rigor with public engagement. His research has addressed topics such as xenophobia in South Africa, Tanzania’s political dynamics, and the role of digital media in social change. He actively contributes to public debates through platforms like African Arguments and maintains a focus on grassroots narratives.
