Chaleece W. Sandberg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Pennsylvania State University's College of Health and Human Development. She holds affiliations with the Center for Language Science, Penn State Neuroscience Institute, and other interdisciplinary institutes. Her Ph.D. (2014, Boston University) focuses on aphasia rehabilitation and neuroplasticity mechanisms. Current research emphasizes optimizing language therapy for aphasia, exploring neuroplasticity during treatment, and understanding aging's impact on language networks.
Her grants include NIH-funded studies on speech/swallow mechanisms in Down syndrome and bilingual aphasia therapies. Notable projects involve developing the Abstract Semantic Associative Network Training (AbSANT) protocols for word retrieval and assessing telehealth adaptations during the pandemic. Sandberg leads the Semantics, Aphasia, and Neural Dynamics Lab, focusing on translational research between cognitive models and clinical practice.
