معرفی
Chad Heins is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Bethany Lutheran College, where he has been teaching since January 2000. His academic work is deeply rooted in field biology, with strong affiliations to biodiversity documentation projects through iNaturalist and BugGuide.
His research interests center on biodiversity and biogeography, particularly in the context of spider species distribution across Minnesota and raptor migration patterns. He developed a preliminary checklist of Minnesota’s spiders due to the absence of a published list, becoming a regional expert in the process. He actively involves students in diverse research areas, including aquatic macroinvertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, plants, spiders, owls, and loons.
The publications listed reflect his expertise in arachnology and ornithology, showing consistent contributions to state-level wildlife knowledge and ecological observations. His work bridges academic research with public science engagement.
- Scientific Awards: No awards listed.
Prof. Heins mentors students through independent research and coursework, supporting a wide range of biological investigations. He coordinates the Bethany Hawkwatch, contributing valuable migration data to Hawkcount. His work is supported by collaborations with the Minnesota DNR and citizen science platforms.
He leads research initiatives focused on biological inventories and ecological monitoring, including a project aggregating spider observations from iNaturalist for Minnesota. These efforts support conservation planning and taxonomic clarity.
