Jerald Dosch serves as Associate Professor of Biology and Director of the Katharine Ordway Natural History Study Area at Macalester College, based in the Olin-Rice Science Center. His research and teaching focus on ecological systems with field operations in Minnesota and Costa Rica.
Education:
- BA in Biology, Minnesota State University Moorhead, 1990
- PhD in Ecology and Evolution, Rutgers University, 1996
His research centers on ornithological responses to environmental stressors, particularly heavy metal contamination (mercury/lead) impacts on Common Loons in Minnesota, frugivorous bird roles in Costa Rican rainforest regeneration, and winter survival strategies of Black-capped Chickadees. This work bridges conservation biology, ecotoxicology, and tropical ecology with strong field-based methodology.
As Director of the Katharine Ordway Natural History Study Area, he manages a critical field research site supporting ecological studies and student training in natural history observation and conservation practices.
