Cesar Hincapié is a Research Fellow at the University of Zurich (UZH) and Balgrist University Hospital, where he leads the Musculoskeletal Epidemiology Research Group at EBPI-UWZH. His work focuses on the burden, etiology, prognosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly in spine health and care.
- Education:
- Bachelor's in Physical and Health Education (University of Toronto, 1999)
- Doctor of Chiropractic (Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, 2003)
- MHSc in Epidemiology (University of Toronto, 2008)
- PhD in Epidemiology (University of Toronto, 2015)
His research integrates clinical epidemiology with musculoskeletal health, emphasizing knowledge translation, implementation science, and evidence-based guidelines. Key projects include high-quality clinical trials, practice-based research networks, and epidemiological analyses for conditions like back-related leg pain, chronic low back pain, and post-concussion syndrome.
Recent publications highlight systematic reviews and meta-analyses on interventions for musculoskeletal conditions (e.g., viscosupplementation for knee OA, spinal manual therapy vs. nerve root injections, WHO guidelines for chronic low back pain). These works span sub-fields like pain management, rehabilitation, and evidence synthesis.
Scientific awards include a CIHR Fellowship in knowledge translation during his PhD. He contributes to WHO clinical practice guidelines and leads initiatives such as SALuBRITY and Swiss ChiCo for improving musculoskeletal healthcare quality.
