Cenk Tek, MD, is a Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University, affiliated with the Yale School of Medicine. He serves as Director of the Psychosis Program at the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) and holds academic appointments in the Neuroscience Research Training Program (NRTP) and Women's Health Research at Yale. His primary focus is on treating psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, with a strong emphasis on early intervention and coordinated specialty care.
Dr. Tek earned his medical degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in Turkey and completed residency and psychiatry fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. His research spans early detection of psychosis, duration of untreated psychosis (DUP), and innovative treatments for binge-eating disorder and obesity. He has led projects like the MINDMAP campaign to reduce DUP in U.S. communities.
His research interests include first-episode psychosis classification using AI, impact of DUP on patient outcomes, and combined pharmacological and behavioral therapies. Key publications explore multimodal classification of psychosis, cognitive-behavioral therapy for eating disorders, and the effectiveness of early detection campaigns.
Dr. Tek is also involved in clinical trials evaluating treatments for loss-of-control eating and weight management post-bariatric surgery. His work bridges clinical care and translational research, aiming to improve long-term outcomes for patients with severe mental health conditions.
