Associate Professor Celine Frere is an ARC Future Fellow at the School of the Environment, Faculty of Science, The University of Queensland. She is affiliated with the Centre for Marine Science and actively contributes to conservation biology and urban evolutionary ecology. Her research focuses on animal adaptation to environmental changes, leveraging genomic tools such as non-invasive molecular diagnostics and airborne eDNA for species monitoring.
She holds a Bachelor of Science (Advanced) and PhD from UQ/UNSW. Her research interests include social evolution, behavioral adaptation, and conservation genetics. Notable achievements include developing innovative tools for koala and reptile conservation, and advocacy for women in STEM (e.g., Queensland Tall Poppy Scientist 2020, SuperStar of STEM 2017).
Her work addresses climate impacts on reptile behavior, wildlife disease dynamics, and urbanization effects on species. She is available for student supervision and has contributed to projects like the Cool Country Koala initiative and crocodile social dynamics studies.
