Celina Jeffery is an Associate Professor of Art History and Theory at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Arts, within the Visual Arts department. Her research focuses on intersections between contemporary art, environmentalism, and socio-political issues, particularly curating exhibitions addressing ecological crises and social justice. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History and Theory from the University of Essex (2002), an M.A. in Critical Museology from the University of Sussex (1998), and a B.A. in History and Theory of Art and Design from U.W.I.C. (1996).
Her research-practice involves curating climate-themed exhibitions such as the SSHRC-funded Ephemeral Coast (2015–2020) and Curating Ecological Futures (2022–2025). Notable publications include Ephemeral Coast: Visualizing Coastal Climate Change (2022) and co-edited works like Symploke's 'Blue Humanities' special issue (2019). She co-founded and edits Drain: A Journal of Contemporary Art and Culture since 2006.
Her teaching spans courses like Art and Ecology, Museum Studies, and Curating for Contemporary Art. She currently supervises Jury Kobayashi, expected to complete in August 2026. Research interests include the Anthropocene, anti-racism, digital humanities, and cultural institutions.
