Dr. Celeste E. Orr (they/them) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and the Wendy J. Robbins Professor in Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of New Brunswick Fredericton Campus. Their interdisciplinary research interrogates body-mind categorization, pathologization, and violence through intersectional feminist and queer lenses.

Dr. Orr’s research integrates intersex studies, disability studies, and queer theory to analyze medical practices, surveillance, and institutional violence. Their 2022 book Cripping Intersex proposes a crip approach to intersex activism. Current SSHRC-funded research with Dr. Nicholas Hrynyk explores how queer communities experience and anticipate violence.
