Cedrick May is a Professor at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in the Department of English, with a focus on African-American literature, screenwriting, and digital humanities. He has been affiliated with UTA since 2007 (as Associate Professor) and became Professor in 2020. Previously, he held academic positions at Texas Christian University and Auburn University.

His research spans 18th–19th century African-American literature, archival recovery, and creative writing (fiction, screenwriting). He has edited foundational texts like The Collected Works of Jupiter Hammon and published in journals like Early American Literature and African American Review. His creative works appear in Aphelion, Coffin Bell, and Dark Horses Magazine.
Recent publications include Bachelard Forgets the Kitchen (2023), a surreal narrative exploring identity and trauma, and The Fifth Stage of Grief (2023), blending dark fiction with psychological themes. His academic articles focus on the intersection of religion and resistance in early African-American writing, while screenwriting projects like Healthy Love (2020) and Police Like Me! (2020) demonstrate narrative versatility.
Scientific Awards include the Pushcart Prize Nomination (2023), Best Overall Domestic MicroShort (2020), and College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award (2013). He has advised PhD and Master’s students such as Shewanda Riley, Michael Dennis, and India Miles in topics ranging from African-American Christian Fiction to Postcolonial Queer Theory. Cedrick May also serves on committees like the Digital Humanities Coordinator (2018–present) and Graduate Studies Committee (2016–present).
