Research interests
Endresen’s work centers on Islam and Christianity in the Balkans, neo-religiosity, religious nationalism, and the interplay between religion and politics. She explores how religious identities are negotiated in post-communist Southeast Europe, with particular attention to Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia. Recent strands investigate yoga and Hindu movements in Europe, therapeutic spirituality in Muslim-majority societies, and emerging conspiracy mythologies.
Recent publication trends
Since 2014 her publications reveal a growing focus on transnational neo-Hindu and New Age phenomena in the Western Balkans, connecting them to tourism, diplomacy and national myth-making. Simultaneously, she continues to analyse Islamic and Christian discourses of nationhood in Albania and neighbouring states, offering nuanced accounts of secularism, globalization and religious reform.
Projects & research groups
Ongoing projects include Christianity and politics in the Philippines and sub-projects MUSLIM+/- and ALTERNATIVE MUSLIMS within the international Mobile Muslims/Invisible Islam consortium. She participates in the research groups Religion and politics (RelPol), C-REX – Esotericism and aesthetics in the Nordic countries, and the Center for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.
