استاد بالینی · Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Queen’s University Belfastمعرفی
Dr. Cecilia O'Kane is a Clinical Professor at Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. Her research focuses on pathophysiological mechanisms in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), lung injury repair, and mycobacterial infections. She leads translational research bridging laboratory models (including EVLP systems and human tissue slices) with clinical trials.
Her work explores:
- Novel biological therapies including mesenchymal stem cells
- Stratification of ARDS phenotypes for precision medicine
- Host-pathogen interactions in tuberculosis and NTM infections
Recent publications demonstrate her team's focus on inflammatory biomarkers, cellular therapies, and respiratory failure management. Her articles frequently examine therapeutic interventions in critical care contexts with strong emphasis on clinical applications.
Awards and honors:
- Elected to Association of Physicians (2015)
- FRCPE Fellowship (2012)
She leads the REALIST trial investigating stem cell therapies for ARDS and collaborates internationally on diagnostic biomarker development. Her lab utilizes ex vivo lung perfusion models to study infection and inflammation mechanisms.
