Cecilia Jacob is an Associate Professor in the Department of International Relations at the Coral Bell School of Asia and the Pacific, Australian National University. She holds additional roles including co-chair of the Asia-Pacific Regional Grouping of GAAMAC and former co-editor-in-chief of Global Responsibility to Protect. Her academic career includes visiting appointments at institutions such as the Max Planck Institute and the University of Oxford.
Education: BA (Hons 1A) from Paris, MA, and PhD from ANU.
Research focuses on civilian protection, mass atrocity prevention, and international human protection norms, intersecting international relations, law, and ethics. Her geographic specialization is South and Southeast Asia, with field research on armed conflict and political violence. She advises governments and organizations like the UN Joint Office on Genocide Prevention.
Her scientific awards include an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellowship (2020–2024). Grants include projects on UN peace reforms and mass atrocity prevention norms. She has supervised students in international relations and human protection frameworks.
