Cecilia Gerber is a UIC Distinguished Professor and serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies and Associate Head for Instruction in the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois Chicago. She leads experimental research in high-energy particle physics as a core member of the CMS Collaboration at CERN. Her work focuses on semiconductor detector development and analysis of top quark dynamics in hadron collisions.
- Education: Physics Diploma (1990) and PhD (1995) from University of Buenos Aires
Research emphasizes precision measurements of top quark properties and searches for beyond-Standard-Model physics through analysis of LHC collision data. Detector innovations include contributions to the CMS pixel detector upgrade.
Recent publications (2013-2022) reflect sustained focus on top quark dynamics, detector technology, and new physics signatures. Awards include APS Fellowship (2010) and AAAS Fellowship (2021).
- Labs/Teams: CMS Collaboration
- Leadership: Undergraduate program director
