Cecilia Alvstad is a Professor of Spanish Linguistics at Østfold University College since 2022, previously holding roles at University of Oslo (2014–2018) and Stockholm University (2018–2023). She specializes in literary translation studies, focusing on text, actor, and societal dimensions. Her research explores metafiction in translation, indirect translations in Scandinavia, and the role of awards in children's literature dissemination.
Education: Defended her thesis on Argentine children's literature translation at University of Gothenburg (2003). Held roles at Linköping University (2006), University of Oslo (2007–2018), and Stockholm University (2018–2023).
Research interests include translation ethics, retranslation dynamics, and the interplay between translation and cultural reception. She has led major grants like 'Voices of Translation' (NOK 11.5M) and 'Traveling Texts' (NOK 5M+). Her work bridges literary analysis with sociolinguistic frameworks.
Professional roles: Member of Swedish Research Council's Humanities Board (2022–2027), editorial advisory boards for International Research in Children's Literature and Perspectives: Studies in Translation Theory and Practice. Previously served as Vice-President of European Society for Translation Studies (2010–2013).
Advising: Supervised 8 PhD students, including works on feminist translation, translator ethics, and Scandinavian reception of Latin American literature. Active in curriculum development for translation studies in Romance languages.
