Ceci Lopez

Ceci Lopez is an Assistant Professor at Western Washington University's Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies. She holds a JD and LLM in Taxation from the University of Washington School of Law. Currently on leave, she maintains her legal practice through her own firm, which serves low- and moderate-income individuals in tax and business matters using a sliding fee scale. Her work integrates a social justice lens, emphasizing accessibility for underserved communities in both legal practice and education.

Education: BA from Fairhaven College (2008), JD (2011) and LLM in Taxation (2012) from University of Washington School of Law.

Research interests focus on the intersection of legal language, cultural development, and public policy. She emphasizes how legal systems intersect with cultural identity, particularly through her experiences as an ESL learner and first-generation immigrant to the U.S.

Awardee of the Christine Brunswick Public Service Fellowship (2011-2013), enabling free legal aid for low-income taxpayers. Active in bilingual (English/Spanish) legal services. Serves as Graduate Fellow at the Washington Leadership Institute.
