Cayce Onks, MS, DO, is a Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Penn State University’s College of Medicine. He directs the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and co-leads the advanced musculoskeletal anatomy elective for medical students. His dual clinical practice focuses on family medicine and sports medicine, emphasizing injury prevention, concussion management, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Research Interests: Dr. Onks leads groundbreaking work in musculoskeletal injury prevention using micro-Doppler radar to analyze movement patterns linked to ankle injuries, ACL tears, and fall risks. His studies extend to early detection of Parkinson’s disease and dementia. He has pioneered an objective clinical tool for injury prevention and collaborates on biomarker research for concussions.
- Developed a casting/joint injection workshop for family medicine residents
- Co-chair of the ACR Appropriateness Criteria® committee for post-total knee arthroplasty imaging
- Recipient of U.S. Army grants for musculoskeletal injury risk research
Teaching & Training: As fellowship director, he shaped curriculum for primary care sports medicine training. His educational contributions include:
