Catriona Standfield

Dr. Catriona Standfield is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Conflict Resolution, Human Security & Governance at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her research employs intersectional and decolonial feminist frameworks to examine gender dynamics in UN mediation, conflict resolution, and diplomatic practices.

Dr. Standfield’s research investigates how gendered institutional practices within the United Nations system influence conflict mediation and peacebuilding. Her work combines qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze diplomatic competence, legitimacy, and the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. Trends in her publications reveal a focus on intersectional critiques of UN mediation narratives, feminist diplomatic theory, and the tension between art and science in peacebuilding practices.
